about me

I have worked as a designer; corporate film-maker; illustrator; educator of both children and adults, and more recently as an artist and experimental printmaker.
My work is strongly influenced by the natural world: things seen and collected on my walks in Norfolk and beyond. I find something particularly satisfying about printmaking: the creation of the plate or matrix; the tools; the press; the calm focussed application of ink; the steady wiping; the soaking and blotting of beautiful paper. Unlike painting or drawing where you are in control of the strength of line or the depth of colour, with printing there is an inevitable random element, as all parts of the process come together through the alchemy of the etching press. Nothing is ever exactly what you expected and results are often a pleasant surprise.
My current passion is collagraph printing, where both process and product are completely satisfying: combining line; colour; texture; intention; invention and the often completely random, unexpected outcome. Others may produce an edition of collagraph prints - but the way in which I work means that each and every one is an original artwork, because I never can replicate exactly, the same print twice!
My work is regularly exhibited and sold here in East Anglia.
Recent shows include:
Wyken Vineyards, Bury St Edmunds (Jan - March 2020)
'4th Red dot mini-print' exhibition 2019/20 (on-going online)
